Get Into Gratitude — Part 2

Last week at this time, I was in the same position I’m in right now:

Staring at a blank screen, unsure of what to write, not really wanting to write anything.

As I’m typing this, it’s Monday morning, July 3. The whole world seems to have the day off, but I do not. And even if I did, I’d still be here.

I’d still GET to write this article.

It’s a bit troubling that my life appears to be playing out in a perpetual loop — and that that loop is currently clouded in malaise.

But that’s a problem for another day.

For the moment, I want to focus on the one thing that’s always in my control:

My attitude.

And over the last little while, I’ve been working on transforming it into an attitude of gratitude.

With that in mind, here are five things for which I am grateful:

-I am grateful for the lack of traffic. One of the advantages of being up while everyone else sleeps.

-I am grateful for lunch money. On most days, I grab something from the prepared foods section of the grocery store next to my office. I don’t think twice about the $4 or $5. But I recognize not everyone is as fortunate.

-I am grateful that I can wear jeans to work. A casual dress code should never be taken for granted.

-I am grateful for midweek holidays. I’ve always said if I could take a third day off each week, it’d be Friday, because who doesn’t like a three-day weekend? But a sneaky-good choice might be Tuesday or Wednesday — that’d break up the workweek the same way your daily lunch break does.

-I am grateful for coming up with this article format last week. While a part of me is disappointed in my lack of originality, there are worse ideas to repeat than discussing all for which I’m thankful.

In fact, it’s something I should repeat as often as possible.
